Hartford Technologies precision specialty
balls are used in medical devices worldwide,
in applications ranging from IV administration
to surgical tools. Materials include glass and
plastic balls as well as 302, 304, and 304L
stainless steel balls. Strictest attention is
paid to ball cleaning in an industry where
cleanliness is critical.
Application:
Metering device for IV fluid flow
Products:
3/16" Precision glass balls
Benefits:
Lower cost, reduced weight
In this application, a 316 stainless steel ball was originally used.
It offered excellent corrosion resistance and strength for the
application and was readily available. Because of the minimal
requirement for strength, however, it was determined
that non-metallic balls could be used instead.
Glass offered high corrosion resistance, more than adequate strength,
lower cost, and was approximately one-third the weight. The finish of the
ball was a ground finish to ensure the product would be visible during the
assembly process.
Application:
Surgical Suturing Device
Products:
6mm engineered plastic ball with a drilled hole
